SESAM (Sense, Science and the Magic of Food): Fostering youth’s interest in food systems transformation – with science as a tool.

Aims & objectives

The purpose of the SESAM is to create interest among young people at school and among citizens about the role of science in society by using food as tool. The goal is to call for food systems transformation that is created by the climate crisis as the science case. The SESAM aims to bring school youth, citizens and scientists together those involved in the Bio-economy, which includes Forestry, Agriculture, and Fisheries through one open and public event in November 27-27, 2020. SESAM is the part of the European Researchers’ Night call (ID: MSCA-NIGHT-2020). Main objectives of SESAM event were: 

      • To highlight how current food systems challenges can be addressed through research and innovation and hereby increase public support and recognition of researchers
      • To enhance understanding of the impact of researchers’ work on citizens‘ daily life
      • To encourage young people to embark on a research career
Formative research

The Young Minds Lab has been developed over the past five years and is founded on formative research using six distinct cases as listed in the table.
